Write for us
We publish guest essays from people who have done brand work in Australia and can still describe the constraint. If your pitch is a capability brochure, send it to someone who sells studios.
What we want
An original essay of 1,200 words or more, in Australian English, that would still be useful six months after publication. The argument should change what a reader does in a brief, a range review, a pitch or a complaint. Case material is welcome if you have permission or can speak from public facts. Named institutions beat unnamed “leading brands”.
We are especially interested in pieces that sit in our hubs:
- Strategy — Positioning, architecture, category design and the decisions that have to survive a range review.
- Practice — Briefs, pitches, retainers, measurement and how brand work actually gets finished in Australian rooms.
- Australia — Place, voice, Country and the particular constraints of a thin, tightly held market.
- Identity — Marks, type, colour, packaging and wayfinding — the surfaces customers actually meet.
- Reputation — Trust, apology, employer brand, greenwashing and the public institutions Australians already doubt.
What we will not take
- Rewritten press releases, award entries or agency case films.
- Thin search pieces, listicles, or “X trends for next year”.
- Work already published elsewhere, including on LinkedIn in full.
- Attacks on named juniors. Institutions and public work are fair game; pile-ons are not.
- Generative drafts that have not been rewritten by a human who will stand by every sentence.
How to pitch
Send a pitch, not a finished draft, through the contact form. Include:
- A working title and a two-sentence argument.
- Why this is an Australian problem, not a global slide with local nouns.
- What you have seen — in-house, in a studio, in a regulator file, in a town.
- Any conflicts: clients, employers, shareholdings, family.
- A short bio and, if you have them, two links to published writing.
We reply when we can take the piece or when the idea is close enough to commission. Silence after three weeks is a no. Do not follow up with the finished 3,000 words attached.
Editing and rights
Accepted pieces are edited for accuracy, fairness and house voice. We fact-check public claims. You keep copyright and grant us a non-exclusive licence to publish, archive and excerpt. We will not republish your piece as a white paper for a sponsor.
Sponsored and guest-post links
If a piece is paid for by a third party, or exists primarily to place a link, it is labelled as sponsored in the byline and intro. Every paid, gifted or guest-post link carries rel="sponsored". We do not sell unmarked links, and we do not accept guest posts whose only job is a dofollow URL. That is not a journal; it is inventory.
Independent guest essays may link to the writer's own work where it is relevant. Those links are editorial, not inventory. If you are unsure, say so in the pitch.
Read the editorial standards before you write. If you still want to pitch, contact the desk.
